Weis Markets has record sales in ’21; plans for $150 million in CapEx

Weis Markets announced earlier this month that it plans to increase its capital expenditures by 11% to $150 million for 2022 by investing in new stores, remodels, fuel centers, IT upgrades and store improvement projects. The increase in spending follows a year in which the grocer generated $4.2 billion in net sales, its highest total ever.

More specifically, Weis Markets President and CEO Jonathan Weis told shareholders that the “budget includes four new stores – some of which will be completed in the coming years – one expansion, five major remodels and eight fuel centers.”

Last year the company opened replacement stores in Gap, Bethlehem and Macungie, PA, plus a new supermarket in Martinsburg, WV. It also opened nine fuel stations, completed 13 major store remodels, and more than 1,100 projects to improve the customer experience and drive operational efficiencies.

Earlier this year Weis opened a new, 63,000 square-foot store in Warminster, PA.

Weis Markets currently operates 197 stores in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic. Pennsylvania (117) and Maryland (49) have the most stores.
