Wawa to open modular construction stores with drive-thru

An article posted on C-Store Dive’s website earlier this week stated that Wawa is planning to open drive-thru locations made using modular construction methods. The buildings are fabricated off-site with the pieces then assembled on location, according to a spokesperson for Modlogiq, the construction company Wawa is working with.

Modligiq also said the first location will open in Trexlertown, PA on February 8. The store will feature two drive-thru menu boards and lanes.

C-Store Dive explained that creating the majority of a building off-site can offer several benefits for retailers, including faster building times and lower chances of weather impacting site access or materials.

The modular buildings for Wawa are built in a warehouse over a 40-day period, after which they can be assembled on location in a matter of days and be ready for occupancy within 20 working days.

Modlogiq said the next modular store opening is planned for Largo, FL.
