Whole Foods opened its first online-only store earlier this month in Brooklyn, NY. According to parent-company Amazon, the “dark store” will fulfill delivery orders only and help Whole Foods better meet rising customer demand for grocery delivery service. It will exclusively service Brooklyn customers.
The online-only store comes as Amazon / Whole Foods continues to experience a booming online grocery business amid the pandemic. Amazon reported that for the second quarter ended June 30, online sales tripled compared to the same quarter a year ago. For that reason the company has boosted its grocery delivery capacity by more than 160% and tripled its number of grocery pickup sites.
