Weis Markets announced earlier this week that it plans to acquire Saylor’s Market in Newville, PA (Cumberland County). The deal is expected to close in the first quarter of next year, at which time the store will be converted to a Weis Markets location.
Saylor’s opened in 1977 in 6,000 square feet and throughout the years expanded, eventually taking up 42,000 square feet. Since Donald Saylor’s death in 2002 his sons and grandchildren have operated the store.
Earlier in the year Weis purchased two existing grocery stores in Franklin County, PA. Currently the company operates nearly 200 stores in seven states.
