Wegmans announced today that they plan to open a store in Manhattan in 2023. The East Village location – in a former Kmart – will be the company’s second store in New York City. They opened in 2019 at Brooklyn’s Navy Yard, where 25,000 shoppers visited on opening day.
Wegmans reportedly signed a 30-year lease with Vornado Realty Trust and will occupy about 82,000 square feet on both the street and lower levels of 770 Broadway. The building takes up a full city block.
The company currently operates 106 stores in New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Virginia, Maryland, Massachusetts and North Carolina.
