Walmart testing automated grocery pickup

Walmart testing automated grocery pickup

David Goodman | Jun 27, 2017 |

Walmart announced earlier this month that it is testing an automated kiosk to distribute online grocery orders to its shoppers at a store in Oklahoma.

Customers who order online can go to the store for pickup, but instead of going inside (and instead of interacting with a human being) they simply enter a confirmation code on a screen at a kiosk outside, which opens a door and reveals an order that was assembled in less than 60 seconds.

The unit is 20 x 80 feet long and can reportedly hold 30,000 items, including chilled and frozen products. It is accessible 24-7.

No word yet on a planned roll-out beyond Oklahoma.
