Amazon closed three of its five Amazon Go convenience stores in New York City late last month. A company spokesperson said the stores were performing well but they couldn’t make the economics work with the lease cost (author comment: which means the stores weren’t performing as well as they anticipated…).
The spokesperson also stated that “we remain committed to the Amazon Go format and will continue to refine our portfolio of stores as we learn which locations and features resonate most with customers and work for our business.”
Amazon now has 17 Go locations nationwide.
