Here’s the skinny:

  • $52.4 billion – total sales for Thanksgiving weekend, a 16% increase over last year
  • 226 million – the number of people that went shopping over Thanksgiving weekend, a 6.6% increase over last year
  • $398.62 – average amount spent by shoppers
  • $479 million – web sales on Thanksgiving day, an 18% increase over last year
  • $816 million – web sales on Black Friday, a 26% increase
  • 2.3% – annualized rate at which consumer spending rose in the third quarter of the year – the fastest pace of 2011
  • 2.8% – estimated rate at which holiday sales will increase over last year
  • 5.2% – last year’s holiday sales increase over the previous year
