According to the U.S. Census Bureau, advance estimates indicate that nationwide retail sales picked up slightly in October, with grocery stores among the leading drivers. The Bureau’s report said October retail and foodservice sales totaled $694.52 billion, up slightly from September but up 8.3% from October 2021.
Grocery store sales for October were estimated to be $72.61 billion, an 8% increase from the same time period last year. For the year-to-date through October, food and beverage store sales were up 7.6% year over year, which reflects 8.3% growth at grocery stores over the 10-month span.
