Giant is slated to backfill the supermarket space formerly occupied by Acme as well as a couple vacant adjacent spaces at Andorra Shopping Center in Northwest Philadelphia. Construction is scheduled to start in 2025 with no opening date announced yet.
According to zoning documents filed with the city, the store will occupy about 44,500 square feet of grocery space plus a 5,500 square foot upper level mezzanine.
Giant currently has nine locations within the Philadelphia city limits with a tenth store set to open later this year at Broad Street and Washington Avenue.
Giant is the leading grocery retailer in Greater Philadelphia with a 15.94% market share, according to the recent market study from Food World. Within the city Giant ranks behind ShopRite and Acme, accounting for 5.6% of the market.
