Northeast supermarket chain Price Chopper/Market 32 announced yesterday that it finalized the purchase of the leases, store equipment and fixtures of the five ShopRite stores in the Albany, NY market that recently closed.
Price Chopper intends to convert two stores to the Market 32 brand and sublease the location directly across from an existing Market 32 supermarket. The company is still deciding on its strategy for the two other stores.
“Price Chopper/Market 32 is excited about the prospect of growing scale right here in New York’s Capital Region…,” said Company President Brian Bringhurst. “We are here to stay and continue to invest in modernizing our stores, providing opportunities to our workforce, delivering an exceptional shopping experience to our customers, and supporting the community around us.”
Based in Schenectady, NY (my birthplace, by the way, and not far from the Price Chopper where I was a stock boy), Price Chopper/Market 32 operates 163 supermarkets and employs 18,000 people in New York, Vermont, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire.
