Wawa’s newly renovated store at Drexel University in Philadelphia has no shelved products. Other than coffee, which remains self-serve, customers have to order products using a touch screen or Wawa’s mobile app.
The store, at 3300 Market Street, reopened on July 26. Wawa spokesperson Lori Bruce said they will be gathering feedback from customers and employees.
According to the Philadelphia Business Journal, before the pandemic this Wawa location did more food-service business than any other. It’s one of three Wawa locations in University City.
Wawa’s presence in Philadelphia has fluctuated over the past couple decades. The company opened several stores in advance of the Pope’s visit in 2015, but recently Wawa has closed six stores in Philadelphia, citing “safety and security challenges and business factors.”
