Two new Whole Foods stores to get Amazon’s Just Walk Out technology

Whole Foods announced last week that Amazon’s checkout-free Just Walk Out technology will be available in two Whole Foods stores slated to open next year in Washington D.C.’s Glover Park neighborhood and Sherman Oaks, CA. The stores will be 21,500 square feet and 9,100 square feet, respectively.

Just Walk Out made its public debut in an Amazon Go store in 2018, and is currently a feature in the company’s 18 Amazon Fresh supermarkets. When shoppers leave the store, Just Walk Out automatically charges their Amazon account for the items taken and sends a digital receipt to their app.

Whole Foods is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Amazon.
