Amazon reportedly planning to open supermarkets in Greater Philly

According to a report in the Philadelphia Business Journal last week, Amazon is considering sites in Bucks County and Center City for its new chain of grocery stores. I have also heard about a Montgomery County site that Amazon may be considering.

Amazon is already a major player in the food retail business, with Whole Foods and Amazon Go stores, as well as Amazon Fresh and other online options. The new chain will be more of a traditional grocery store. The Wall Street Journal reported last October that Amazon had plans to open a dozen stores in the Los Angeles market and intended to explore locations in Chicago and Philadelphia as well.

Food Trade News has reported that the Bucks County locations being considered are the former Giant at Creekview Center in Warrington, and the former Kmart at Brookwood Shopping Center in Bensalem. In both cases, Amazon would take a portion of the available space.
