Shoppers feel safer from COVID-19 at supermarkets than at other retail locations

Based on a survey of more than 500 American consumers conducted by First Insight in late April, more than half said they feel “safe” or “very safe” from COVID-19 when shopping in grocery stores. Consumers said they don’t feel as safe at any other retail locations, although drug store chains were a close second.

Here are the survey results:

1. Grocery Stores – 54% feel safe
2. Drug Store Chains – 50%
3. Big Box Retailers – 45%
4. Local Small Businesses – 43%
5. Warehouse Clubs – 43%
6. Department Stores – 37%
7. Shopping Malls – 33%

The survey results also showed that men feel much safer than women at stores. 58% of men said they feel safe at grocery stores, compared to 49% of women. In fact, men said they feel safer at each type of retail location.
