Save-A-Lot to offer Amazon pickup and payment services

Save-A-Lot announced on Monday that by the end of 2020 it plans to have about 400 stores as pickup and payment sites for Amazon purchases. The discount grocer plans to offer Amazon’s PayCode and HubLocker services.

With PayCode, customers can purchase an item on Amazon.com and select the PayCode option. They then receive an Amazon PayCode – a QR code and a number – that they reference when they pay cash for their purchase at a designated location. The service is already available at 15,000 Western Union locations, and is currently available at some Save-A-Lot stores in St. Louis.

Through Amazon Hub Locker, customers can choose to have an Amazon.com order shipped to a designated Hub Locker location for pickup. Once a package is delivered to a locker, the customer receives an email notification and can go to the locker, enter a code and retrieve the item. The service can also be used to return items.

Currently Amazon’s locker program is available in more than 900 cities and towns nationwide, including Whole Foods and Stein Mart stores. The company also has in-store pickup and return service at thousands of locations, including about 100 Rite Aid stores and all Kohl’s stores, as well as GNC, Health Mart and Stage Stores. Plans are in the works to expand the service to over 1,500 Rite Aid stores in the near future.
