Wal-Mart to Open a Store in Bethlehem, PA

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. already has two fulfillment centers in Bethlehem to support its e-commerce business. Now it wants its first brick-and-mortar store in the city.

The retailer on Tuesday announced it is planning to build a supercenter in Lehigh Valley Industrial Park VII, at Route 412 and Commerce Center Boulevard in south Bethlehem.

The 158,000-square-foot store, which would be near Wal-Mart’s local fulfillment centers, would create roughly 300 jobs, the company said. Like a typical Wal-Mart, the new store would offer a grocery area, a wide selection of general merchandise, a garden center and a full-service pharmacy.

A company spokesman said Wal-Mart is in the midst of the approval process, with an initial presentation on the supercenter site plan to be held June 9 at the Bethlehem Planning Commission meeting.
