It’s good a retailer is expanding!
Dick’s Sporting Goods steps up pace of expansion
Dick’s Sporting Goods is stepping up the pace of its expansion, but the company’s chief executive says it’s not yet time to follow the National Hockey League and Major League Baseball across the northern border.
“Our expansion will be in the U.S.,” said Edward W. Stack, chairman and CEO of the Findlay retail company, in comments following the annual shareholders meeting Thursday at the Hyatt Regency at the Pittsburgh International Airport.
There’s still plenty of room here, he said.
Dick’s had almost 450 of its namesake stores operating in 42 states at the end of the first quarter. That’s a little more than halfway toward the 900-store goal that officials announced in the middle of the last fiscal year, after they decided they could take advantage of smaller retail spaces opening up and fit in more than the 800 stores that they’d earlier envisioned.
