New Target, Trader Joe’s and Wegmans stores coming soon to Delaware

Residents of Delaware’s New Castle County will have more grocery choices in the near future. Target, Trader Joe’s and Wegmans are all on track for openings this year or next.

Target

According to a recent statement by Target Spokesperson Jill Lewis, “Our Wilmington Prices Corner Target store is planned to open this spring.” Since then, an April 18 opening date has been announced. At 113,000 square feet, the department store is taking nearly two-thirds of the former Sears building, which closed in 2018.

The shopping center recently updated its façade and announced that several businesses, including AutoZone, Chick-Fil-A, Urban Kitchen, Tropical Smoothie and Chase Bank, have opened or are coming soon.

With the opening of the Prices Corner store, Target will have four locations in Delaware.

Trader Joe’s

The Trader Joe’s website says the store at 2500 Fashion Center Blvd. in Newark is coming soon, and according to reports, the exterior renovations of the former Saks Off 5th location are mostly complete. Trader Joe’s is slated for about 16,000 of the approximately 30,000 square foot space.

Wegmans

Developer Greg Pettinaro is planning for a mixed-use property on a site that was formerly occupied by a DuPont Co. office complex. The state’s first Wegmans will serve as the retail anchor, along with residences and office space. A Wegmans spokesperson said the store, at Route 141 and Lancaster Pike, is on track for a 2022 opening.
