Giant’s Heirloom Market to open in former Strawbridge’s building

It was reported yesterday that Giant plans to open an Heirloom Market on the ground floor of the historic Strawbridge’s building on Market Street in Philadelphia. The 32,000 square foot store is slated to open before the end of the year.

The section of the ground floor that the market will occupy is being purchased by Alterra Property Group. PREIT and Macerich will retain ownership of the rest of the building’s ground floor and second floor. The remaining 11 floors are offices owned by Cohen Equities and Taconic Capital.

The store will be the fifth Heirloom Market in Philadelphia to go along with two Giant supermarkets, the newest of which recently opened in Center City’s Riverwalk complex. And Giant confirmed more supermarkets coming to the city in the next couple years.
