Giant Heirloom Market opens 4th store in Philadelphia

Giant’s fourth Heirloom Market in the city of Philadelphia opened last month in the Fashion District mall. The opening capped a big year in Philadelphia for the food retailer that included four new traditional supermarkets and a Giant Direct e-commerce fulfillment center.

At 32,000 square feet and located in the historic building that housed the iconic Strawbridge & Clothier department store, the new Heirloom market is the chain’s largest yet, and can be accessed from Market Street as well as from inside the mall. Giant has restored and maintained many of the interior design elements, including “Il Porcellino,” Strawbridge’s wild boar statue.

According to an article in Supermarket News, it’s format and product mix is tailored for urban customers. Features include local produce, a plant-based department, a self-serve tap wall with more than 30 selections, kombucha on tap, Starbucks, and a sushi bar. Like the first three Giant Heirloom Market stores, it includes Philadelphia-area food purveyors like Claudio Specialty Foods and Isgro Pastries, as well as a grind-your-own beans option featuring One Village Coffee.

Giant Direct online groceries are also available to customers, which provides them with access to the products found in Giant supermarkets.
