Giant closing fulfillment centers in VA, MD and DE

Giant announced the upcoming closing of an 80,000 SF fulfillment center in Manassas, VA that the company opened just a few months ago, according to a report by Washington D.C. news group WTOP. According to Giant, the fulfillment center was opened with the goal of completing delivery orders in three hours.

Giant now says it’s changing its operating structure and wants to use a more localized and efficient fulfillment model. The company also plans to close fulfillment centers in Hannover, MD and Milford, DE.

In a letter to impacted employees, Giant said it plans to end its central fulfillment Giant Delivers operation on or before October 21. Despite the closures, the company told WTOP that grocery delivery remains an integral part of its omnichannel growth strategy.

Giant is headquartered in Carlisle, PA and operates 165 stores, about half of which are in the Washington, D.C. area.
