Winn-Dixie to merge with Bi-Lo... who's next?

Although the impending merger between Winn-Dixie and Bi-Lo doesn’t affect the Greater Philadelphia market, it’s newsworthy nonetheless. It is widely expected that we will see more such mergers and/or acquisitions in the coming months and years. And the next transaction – if the many rumors are true about Giant (Ahold) and Genuardi’s (Safeway) – may […]

Would You Bet on These 6 Department Stores?

In this article, this author is positive when it comes to Dillards, J.C. Penney, Kohl’s, Macy’s, Sears Holdings Corporation, and TJX Companies.  In my experience and research, TJX has consistently performed well.  Kohl’s has been strong, but shown some recent sales concerns.  J.C. Penney looks like it will do three or four new locations next […]

For example, the November 2011 issue includes the list of the Top 200 Edible Grocery Items by dollar sales in the Delaware Valley. Not surprisingly, Coke (Classic) is tops, with nearly $25 million […]

A new report from Colliers International says the U.S. now has more dollar stores than drugstores. The four big national dollar store chains – Dollar General, Dollar Tree, Family Dollar and 99 Cents Only – have approximately 21,500 locations. The three big drugstore chains – Walgreens, CVS and Rite Aid – have approximately 19,700 locations. […]

Martin “Hap” Stein, Jr., chairman and CEO of Regency Centers, recently said the company’s grocery-anchored shopping centers held up well during the recession and helped it weather the storm. “People have to eat,” he said, before adding that supermarkets at Regency Centers average over $25 million in sales. King of Prussia Mall announces another major expansion

The King of Prussia Mall, already one of the largest shopping malls in the United States (the largest, according to Wikipedia, which is always right), will soon get significantly bigger. Simon Property Group, the mall’s owner, announced earlier this week that they plan to unify the two main shopping venues – the 1,680,000 square foot […]
