Aldi to acquire Winn-Dixie and Harvey’s Supermarket stores

Aldi has entered into an agreement to purchase a total of 400 Winn-Dixie and Harvey’s Supermarket stores from Southeastern Grocers. Terms of the deal haven’t been disclosed.

Aldi now plans on having about 2,400 stores by the end of the year, and as a result of the acquisition, an expanded footprint in Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Louisiana, and Mississippi.

Southeastern Grocers, which also owns Fresco y Mas stores and exited bankruptcy in 2018, has been thriving of late. The company reported over $2 billion in sales for the fourth quarter of 2022, a 10% increase year over year.

Aldi has yet to announce how many of its new stores will carry the Aldi banner. Stores that aren’t converted will continue to operate under the Winn-Dixie and Harvey’s names.
