Instacart “Caper Cart” coming to ShopRite in NJ

The Caper Cart is coming to New Jersey! (I didn’t know what that meant either.)

Instacart’s smart shopping cart, known as the Caper Cart, is coming soon to the ShopRite of Spotswood, NJ. The cart automatically recognizes and rings up groceries, provides recommendations to shoppers, and allows customers to check out directly from the cart.

The Caper Cart is scheduled to come to a Fairway Market in Manhattan’s Kips Bay neighborhood as well.

The carts are powered by AI and computer-vision technology, and can recognize and scan items placed inside it. Customers can see a running total on the cart’s screen, and upon checkout, they simply scan the barcode displayed on the screen.

This next gen Caper Cart holds 65% more than the previous version, and offers increased personalization. Once activated, customers can link to their ShopRite loyalty account and apply digital coupons.
