Wegmans Food Markets, which recently opened its 100th store, plans to build a new regional distribution center in Ashland, Virginia. The 1.1 million square foot, $175 million facility is slated to begin operations in 2022.
Wegmans currently has regional distribution centers in Rochester, New York and Pottsville, Pennsylvania.
The company has been entering new markets recently, opening a store in Brooklyn, NY a couple months ago, and a store in Raleigh, North Carolina just before that. Wegmans said recently they are planning more stores in North Carolina, including five more in the Raleigh-Durham area, and locations in Wake Forest, Cary, Chapel Hill and Holly Springs.
Another metro New York location is coming to Harrison (Westchester County, NY) next spring, and additional stores are planned for Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Washington, D.C, and Virginia (four of them!).
