Lidl announced yesterday that it plans to open its first two Long Island stores on December 11. The locations will be in Center Moriches – in a former Waldbaum’s, and in West Babylon – in a converted Best Market. Stores in Plainview, Huntington, East Meadow, Oakdale, Patchogue and Lake Grove are planned for 2020. Five of the planned 2020 stores are former Best Market locations.
Lidl acquired the Best Market chain earlier this year. 24 of the 27 Best Market locations are in Long Island.
According to the company, it plans to open 25 new stores in Maryland, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and Virginia by next spring. The company also said it expects to top the 100-store mark by the end of 2020.
In addition to the Long Island stores, five other stores in North Carolina and New Jersey are slated to open this month.
